OS aware Debug & Trace with iSYSTEM winIDEA and FreeRTOS

A hardware debugger is great for giving us access to the lowest levels of the system we are debugging. However, when an OS is used, even a lightweight RTOS, we often run the risk of not seeing the forest for the trees when analyzing the behavior of our system. In other words, an OS abstraction layer in a debug tool can help us get a better understanding of the system by aggregating the low-level information and displaying it to us in a more concise manner.

This webinar discusses the FreeRTOS awareness features built into winIDEA. We start with demonstrating simple approaches like a plugin listing all the tasks and their attributes in a table. We then continue to more involved analyses before finishing with a demo of an advanced configuration of the Analyzer where the states of each task are shown in the Profiler timeline, enabling precise timing measurements.

About iSYSTEM

We empower embedded software engineers to do it right!

Our BlueBox Technology stands for fast and easy microcontroller access via any kind of debug interface. Complemented with integrated development and test software winIDEA/testIDEA it provides access to on-target timing information. Embedded software engineers can review application timing, analyze real-time operating system states, and undertake code coverage to prove that their products do what they were built to do.
