Configure a New Workspace

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a new workspace and define its name, location, and debugger type, add Symbol and Program Files and understand the differences;

1. When first launching winIDEA, a Select Workspace dialog pops up. Select Create New Workspace.

2. Define Name, Location, and Debugger type.

Make sure option BlueBox Development Tools is selected if you work with BlueBox.

3. Start typing in the Device field parts of Device's name to quickly narrow down the search.

You can use vendor's naming as well, e.g. Traveo, Chorus, Bolero, Kinetis, F1KM.

4. Add Symbol (and Program) file.

One download file - Add the Symbol file (usually ELF) and make sure the Use the Symbol file to Program the Device is checked.

Both files - Add the Symbol (usually ELF) and the Program file (usually S).

Check the No Program file if you don't want to load any content to your target.

Multiple download files - Configure them in Debug | Session Configuration | Switch to Full.

oProgram files in SoCs | Program Files.

oSymbol files in Application | Symbols Files.

5. Select BlueBox.

winIDEA will automatically detect connected and powered-on BlueBoxes.

6. (optional) Select your Probe.

System refers to the connection via BlueBox connectors.

7. (optional) Select your Board to automatically configure CPU settings.
